From complimentary designer chocolates to a heated pool and triple rooms, the NH Edelweiss is the premeir Bariloche hotel for families.
“Where are you going?” Our taxi driver asked us outside of the Bariloche airport.
“The hotel Edelweiss.”
“Ah yes, I know it!”
20 short minutes later we were greeted at the door to NH Edelweiss, one of the most prestigious hotels in Bariloche. A friendly attendant eagerly took our bags to the front desk, helped us check in, and told us all about the hotel.
Much to our relief our family room was ready over an hour ahead of the official check-in time. We opened the door to a sitting area, full bathroom with upscale toiletries, and bedroom with two double beds, 1 single bed, and an incredible view of Lago Nahuel Huapi and prompty threw ourselves on the comfortable beds.
I took a much-needed nap under the soft sheets while Ben and Whit explored the indoor pool, gym, and sauna, then we took a stroll down the street for some of the best food and chocolate in downtown Bariloche.
I think I’m in heaven.
5 Reasons You’ll Love the NH Edelweiss Bariloche Family Hotel
It feels as though Edelweiss, an NH Hotels property, was built to fill a specific need in Bariloche: families looking to relax in comfort.
Edelweiss hotel Bariloche features 95 rooms with all of the amenities you’d expect in an upscale hotel and the added details of child-friendly elements. Read on for everything you’d want to know about this family-friendly hotel in Bariloche!
1. The Best Location in the Heart of Bariloche
San Carlos de Bariloche is a small town on the edge of Nahuel Huapi Lake in the Patagonia region of central Argentina. Buildings are designed with the architectural style of popular European villages and the town is surrounded by adventurous mountain activities.
Tourists are drawn to Bariloche for both the charming town and exhilerating opportunities to enjoy nature, and Edelweiss Bariloche is in the center of it all.
Located in the heart of downtown Bariloche, NH Edelweiss is steps away from the best things to do in Bariloche. Famous chocolateirs Rapa Nui and Mamushka, the Bariloche lakefront beach, the historic Cathedral Nuestra Senora del Nahuel Huapi, plazas, restaurants, and shopping are all within quick walking distance of the hotel.
It’s just as easy to explore the neighboring mountains, lakes, and towns from the bus stop just outside of the hotel, or simply make arrangements with the hotel’s excursion specialist for group tours!
When it comes to making the most of your time in Bariloche you’ll appreciate being so close to the action after a long day of skiing at Cerro Catedral or hiking Cerro Otto! You can grab a bite to eat, delicious chocolate or ice cream, take in the sunset across the lake, and head in to your comfortable room without any extra effort.
2. Super Big, Comfortable Guest Rooms
Hotel Edelweiss Bariloche offers a variety of guest rooms to please any number of guests. Choose between rooms with a king bed, two double beds, or a family room with two doubles and a single. Larger groups can even choose adjoining family rooms for more space and flexibility!
Not only are there large, comfortable beds piled high with pillows, each spacious room also includes a work desk, nightstands, full bathroom with separated toilet and bidet, closet with safe, minifridge, and entrance room with bench and full-length mirror with plenty of room to move around.
Some rooms also feature big bay windows with breathtaking views of Nahuel Huapi lake!
Honestly, when three (or more) people are sharing a room being able to walk around the suitcases and shoes becomes a really big deal to keeping the peace!
3. You’ll Love the Breafast Buffet
The second most important thing to us when choosing a family hotel is the breakfast and on-site restaurant (after room size and comfort, of course). Though Hotel Edelweiss charges extra for a buffet breakfast, I’m happy to say it is well worth it!
As a celiac sufferer I was thrilled to find plenty of vegetable and protein options to fill my breakfast plate as opposed to the standard Argentine breakfast offerings of sweet pastries and coffee. Yes, there are plenty of tables with sugary foods, as well, but those of us used to a savory spread in the morning will definitely appreciate all of the salty, satisfying options!
I also loved the variety of drinks available at breakfast time. We could choose from multiple flavors of drinkable yogurt, fresh juices, tomato juice, water, a variety of teas, coffee, and chocolate, and different types of milk.
You’ll even find NH hotel brand’s characteristic Lazy Sunday breakfast, where the meal is extended to 12:00 pm!
I can honestly say that every member of our family, even those with dietary restrictions, were more than pleased with a filling meal to start the day!
The Edelweiss breakfast buffet is whisked away later in the day to serve as a full-service restaurant, with decent prices and deliciously food. It’s the perfect place to stop for a meal after a long day of exploring around town before a nightly dip in their heated pool!
4. Perfect Hotel Amenities for Kids and Adults
The third thing we check when choosing a family hotel is the amenities offered by the hotel. This was, yet again, where NH Edelweiss shined.
Here’s just a bit of the included amenities all members of our family enjoyed:
- The largest indoor pool in the center of Bariloche (which happens to be heated) with a patio overlooking the city and lake
- Well-equipped gym with towels water and fruit available 24/7
- Sauna and heated calming lounge room with towels, water and fruit available 24/7
- Full-service spa with competitvely priced massages and facials
- Welcome Rapanui chocolates upon check-in
- Complimentary water and candy station in the front lobby
- Free wifi throughout the hotel
- Minifridges in rooms with snack bar
- Room Service
- Luxury bathroom amenities including hair mask
- Business center and bar/ lounge available 24/7
I can’t fully express how great it felt to have free run of the amenities we enjoy so much. To be able to come and go from the gym to sauna to lounge at any time of day really helped us feel at home in this hotel! I mean, who wouldn’t love to walk right into a sauna, grab an apple and a towel, and watch a show on Netflix while you de-stress at midnight?
Our son absolutely loved going on short runs on the treadmill with us then heading to the heated pool where he could choose to swim or play with the children’s playhouse and toys before lounging in the heated sauna prep room. He made himself comfortable grabbing cups of water and fruit whenever he wanted, and the staff always gave him a happy smile when he passed up and down the stairs. Of course we adults loved the amenities offered at Edelweiss, but to see my son feel so at home and comfortable in a hotel made my mommy heart soar. He, and we, never wanted to leave!
5. Regularly Updated
Visitors flock to Bariloche and Hotel Edelweiss year-round, yet the hotel chooses to close for 3 weeks every May for regularly scheduled renovations, maintanence, and to install new gym equipment.
As frequent travelers, staying in a comfortable, clean, modern hotel is important to us. All to often hotel reviews report rooms which smell, feel dingy or old, or are in desperate needs of updating decades-old furniture. I’ve never heard of any other hotel with annually scheduled updates and maintenance, and it definitely shows! Every inch of NH Edelweiss Bariloche feels new, clean, comfortable, and aesthetically pleasing.
In 2019 all the bathrooms were updated, in May 2020 the guest rooms will switch from carpet to wood flooring, each room will be supplied with new mattresses and box springs, and the artwork and decor around the hotel will change. Next year, 2021, the lobby and restaurant are scheduled for a facelift.
When and how to book NH Edelweiss Hotel Bariloche
The busiest time of the year for visitors to Bariloche and NH Edelweiss hotel is October-February, though all months are considered busy.
Guests enjoy skiing in the wintertime and hiking during the summer, so the area sees tourists year-round. We suggest booking the Bariloche family hotel as far in advance as possible, while generally avoiding the month of May as the hotel closes for maintanence.
There is plenty to do in and around Bariloche, but we suggest a 3-4 day stay at Edelweiss to enjoy the city and surrounding mountains. After that you can rent a car to explore the small towns and lakes a few hours away on an extended 7-10 day trip through the greater Bariloche region.
Book your stay at Edelweiss through their website directly to stay up-to-date on availability, or book Edelweiss through Booking.com to see reviews from past guests.
